The UMSS sprints completed the opening night of the 22nd Annual Kouba Memorial at the Princeton Speedway on Friday August 15 with the running of the Ethel Kouba Memorial race. The second night will have to wait until Friday September 5, as the Earl Kouba Memorial portion was rained out at SCVR on Saturday August 16. This will set up a double header weekend for the UMSS with September 5 at SCVR and the 14th Annual Richert Memorial at CLS the following night.

About the UMSS

Ryan Bowers won the opening night of the Mighty Axe Nationals at North Central Speedway after Lee Grosz and Tony Norem brought out the yellow while battling for the lead late in the race. On the second night of the Mighty Axe, Jerry Richert, Jr. passed Bowers on lap 20 and went on to pick up his second axe, having won his initial one back in 2007.
